SUMMARY:Second Thursday at NextFab: Third Time a Pattern Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening exhibit of two local artists and members\, Alan Levine and Bill Russell. Alan Levine will be showcasing his colorful and vibrant sculptures\, alongside Bill Russell’s functional and beautiful furniture. This show will open as part of NextFab’s Second Thursday events and will run through the end of September. \nLight drinks and refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. \nAbout the artists: \nAlan Levine  \nStarting with some bold forms and adding colors\, shapes\, and design details creates intriguing and sometimes whimsical sculpture in a very unique style. \n“My sculpture has been evolving for many years\, and I feel it has evolved into the perfect mix of my skill and my aesthetic.”  \nBill Russell  \nBill Russell\, furniture refinisher\, fine artist\, and educator\, has been making his mark in Philadelphia for over 40 years. With studios in Northern Liberties\, and then Fishtown\, he’s now moved into his newest space at NextFab. To celebrate his third location\, Bill will showcase works at his newest show\, aptly named “Third Time A Pattern\,” during NextFab’s “Second Thursday” Openings in both August and September. Visitors can expect to see both furniture and fine art from his collection featuring his signature vinegar painting and staining\, all available for sale. Bill Russell Studio was started over 40 years ago to continue a tradition that stretches back into the antiquity of using color and imagery to embellish furniture. \nNote: there will be no Philly Fixer’s Guild at the August Second Thursday event. \nWhat are Second Thursdays? \nFor 17 years\, the Crane Arts Building has hosted monthly art exhibitions\, performances\, and openings on the Second Thursday of every month. Similar to First Fridays in Old City\, but not wanting to compete\, Second Thursdays were created to highlight the creative community of the North Philadelphia neighborhood – and well it stuck! \nAmerican St. is becoming a booming street for artists\, makers\, and creatives of all types\, and we invite you to come out to be a part of this. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio\, the NextFab building at 1800 North houses six businesses that will also be opening their doors on the second Thursday of every month. At 1800 N. American St. the creative work ranges from sourcing salvaged materials\, empowering artists\, building bicycles\, and supporting artisan businesses\, to a restaurant mixing up amazing cocktails. All are welcome to this open house-style event! \nWhile at the 1800 N. American St. building be sure to check out our neighbors:\n\nThe Resource Exchange\nSor Ynez\nKeystone Bicycle Co\nBeaty American Salvage\nCenter for Creative Works
