DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special Second Thursday event\, featuring artist Maria Schneider and POST (Philadelphia Open Studio Tours) Preview Party at NextFab. Multi-disciplinary artist\, her work is characterized by graphic simplicity and conceptual undertones. As a member of NextFab\, she works with lasers\, LED lighting\, and other technologies\, which she incorporates into her artistic practice. In her new work\, she creates layering photography and lasers to create mystical landscapes of color and shapes. She will be demoing her process of combining laser cutting and painting and answering questions about her work. \nBe sure to swing by 1800 N. American Street on October 23rd as part of the official POST\, and check out NextFab studio spaces\, the Center for Creative Works\, and the Resource Exchange. Come by the Center for Creative Works for their opening reception of an amazing Halloween-themed immersive exhibition/performance with one of their artists David Schmuckler. \nRolling tours of NextFab will be available\, and light drinks and refreshments will be served. \n\n \nWhat are Second Thursdays? \nFor 17 years\, the Crane Arts Building has hosted monthly art exhibitions\, performances\, and openings on the Second Thursday of every month. Similar to First Fridays in Old City\, but not wanting to compete\, Second Thursdays was created to highlight the creative community of the North Philadelphia neighborhood – and well it stuck! \nAmerican St. is becoming a booming street for artists\, makers\, and creatives of all types\, and we invite you to come out to be a part of this. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio\, the NextFab building at 1800 North houses eight businesses that will also be opening their doors on the second Thursday of every month. At 1800 N. American St. the creative work ranges from restoring historic neon\, sourcing salvaged materials\, empowering artists\, building bicycles\, supporting artisan businesses\, a gorgeous floral market\, and a restaurant mixing up amazing cocktails. We’ll have dinner and drinks. \n5:30 pm: Opening remarks \n5:45 pm: Julia Anthony\, co-founder and CEO of SOLUtion Medical\nSOLUTION Medical has developed an innovative approach to simplify drug delivery in crisis situations\, along with a more advanced approach to hybrid drug development. Starting with products designed to help patients suffering from an adrenal crisis\, SOLUtion Medical’s safe injection platform has applications in other scenarios\, including administering antipsychotic drugs\, in vitro fertilization\, delivery of monoclonal antibodies\, and cancer treatments. \n6:15 pm: James Brodovsky\, co-founder and CEO of Tergeo Technologies\nTergeo Tech builds semi-autonomous easily customized modular robots that help with everyday problems. The first problem Tergeo Tech is tackling is litter and urban sanitation with a semi-autonomous sweeping cobot. James’ will give a talk titled ‘Just Ask’ about the many fears and obstacles founders\, especially hardware founders\, face and how they can overcome them by just asking the question. \n6:45pm: TBD. We’re recruiting one more presenter.
