SUMMARY:Jefferson Health Hack
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we solve healthcare’s biggest challenges! Jefferson Health Hack is three days of problem solving\, networking\, collaboration\, and a ton of fun! \nA healthcare hackathon thrives on the collision of different worlds\, experiences\, and cultures. It brings together people from disparate disciplines who may not work together otherwise\, to dream up scalable solutions for the most pressing issues in healthcare. These meetups can drive ideas and startups worth millions. They can also jump start significant improvements in our day-to-day practices. \nThis year\, participants will travel through one of three tracks\, or themes\, to guide their ideas: Health by Zip Code – Disparity Solutions\, What are you wearing? – Health Driven Wearables\, and Reimagining Death – Designing End of Life. Teams  will form in order address and come up with a solution to a proposed problem. Problems are identified and brought forward by participants based along the tracks. The problems are proposed and then groups naturally form as people join them based on interest and ideas. The teams formed based on these problems will work together throughout the duration of the Hackathon. Throughout the Health Hack at Jefferson\, NextFab experts will be there to offer consultations on product development and solutions. Teams are then invited back to NextFab headquarters to start prototyping their solutions NextFab spaces. After a presentation to a panel of judges\, a winner for each track will be selected! \n  \nRegister HERE.

SUMMARY:Manufacturing 101 with DVIRC at South Philly
DESCRIPTION:Manufacturing 101 is an opportunity to gain insights into working with manufacturers. The presentation will discuss design for manufacturing\, understanding supply chain development\, and manufacturing practices. We will cover design and manufacturing jargon\, how to determine best strategies for early production and scaled production\, and share resources to help find regional manufacturing capabilities. By attending the presentation you will be given the opportunity to help define new supply chain development services. \nWe will be joined by guest speaker\, Andrew Dahlgren. He has been working with Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) on the Manufacturing Access Project to develop new strategies to connect designers\, makers\, and entrepreneurs to regional manufacturers. Over the past two years they have learned about the growing number of entrepreneurs in the region and their desire to source regional manufacturing capabilities. In parallel they have identified many barriers that have prevented entrepreneurs and manufacturers from working together. \nManufacturing 101 is their first step to addressing and removing those barriers. Andrew’s work as a designer\, maker\, entrepreneur\, and teacher has helped shape his understanding of the many parts of the industrial ecosystem at work in the region. As a teacher he helps many future entrepreneurs develop strategies for translating an idea and early vision into a manufactured product. Outside of academia\, he is working to develop new strategies for regional development that combine inclusive circular economic practices with increased access to design\, making\, and entrepreneurial education and support. \nThis event is open to the public\, but RSVP’s are required. \n\nLet us know if you can attend!
