Make a Custom Keepsake Box: Woodshop Orientation, Milling and Introduction to the Table Saw

About the Course

Part of NextFab’s Summer Maker series, dive into our woodworking department by making a custom keepsake box in this beginner-friendly course! After completing a basic woodshop orientation, students will receive a thorough introduction to the table saw and miter saw while learning how to lay out and perform precise miter cuts, dados, splines, and rabbet joints in the process of crafting a hinged wooden box. Students will then choose a custom design to carve into the lid of their box using the ShopBot CNC Router. Finally, we will explore different finishing techniques while finishing our boxes with Danish oil. This class is a perfect first project for anyone excited about getting up to speed in the woodshop!
